About Roy Williams
Roy Eugene Williams, Jr. (born December 20, 1981 in Odessa, Texas) is a football player who currently plays wide receiver for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League.
Williams emerged as one of the NFL’s elite receivers in 2006 as the Lions No. 1 receiving threat. Williams played for the NFC squad in the 2007 Pro Bowl squad on January 12, 2007, marking his first career Pro Bowl selection, and he became the first wide receiver to represent Detroit in the annual all-star game since Herman Moore played in the 1999 Pro Bowl. His size, speed and strength have been an asset to the Lions during his first three seasons after the team selected him with one of their first round selections, seventh overall, in the 2004 draft.
He is a gifted pass catcher with one of the best pair of hands in the league. Williams’ 181 receptions and 2,814 receiving yards are the most by a Lions’ receiver in franchise history during the player’s first three NFL seasons. His 23 touchdowns are second only to Cloyce Box (30, 1949-52) among Lions’ receivers in their first three seasons. A highly regarded prospect coming out of college at Texas, Williams set several Lions rookie records in 2004, including receptions (54), yards (817) and touchdowns (8). He won numerous accolades during his inaugural season, including NFC Rookie of the Month for September.
